Alice Burnett

–

Pearland, Texas

Min. Alice Mae Burnett was born on May 29, 1941, to the late Junius and Annie Mae Washington. She was the third eldest of six children. Min. Alice moved to Houton where she met and married Peter Mayon Jr. on January 29, 1958. From this union, they were blessed with six children, Rodney Mayon, Rhonda Blair, Wanda Mayon, Kenneth Mayon, Craig Mayon and Cheryl Randall. Later, on August 27, 1975, she married her lifelong partner Sammy Burnett, with whom she shared 48 years of love and companionship. To this union no children were born, however they shared a blended family with ten children. All who knew Alice and Sammy were aware of their undying love for each other. She was a dedicated wife and mother who was affectionately known as “Mittie” to her nieces, a name she wore with joy and pride.

Alice graduated from High School in 1959 in Beaumont, TX. She received her Associate Degree in Science in Criminal Justice on May 14, 1977, and her Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Criminal Justice on May 13, 1979, from the University of Houston and later received her Juris Doctor degree from Thurgood Marshall. She worked and retired from Texas Workforce Commission in their legal department. She loved bowling, camping, listening to gospel music and her AI stories, traveling with friends and family and she especially loved jumping in their RV and traveling to adventurous places with her dear husband Sam.

Min. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was actively involved in her church, Crossroads Community Church of Pearland under the leadership of Pastor Christopher F. Hartwell. She loved teaching the word of God and lived a life that glorified God.

Alice was proceeded in death by both her parents Junius and Annie Mae Washington; her husband, Sammy Lee Burnett; her children, Rodney Mayon, Kenneth Mayon, Wanda Mayon; her brothers Robert Joseph Jackson (Catherine), James (aka Boy) Washington (Rae) and Junius (aka Lil Brother) Washington (Anthenaise); her sisters, JoAnn Matthews (Roy) and Alberta (aka Lil Sister) Nettles (Ardie); her son-in-law, Tracie Blair; several brothers-in-law, and her sisters-in-law.
