Derrick Rue, Sr. Obituary (1978 - 2026)

In Loving Memory of Derrick Rue Sr. September 26, 1978 – May 14, 2026 Derrick Rue Sr., of Houston, Texas, entered eternal rest on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Born on September 26, 1978, and proudly rooted in Jeanerette, Louisiana, Derrick lived a life full of strength, loyalty, laughter, and love. Derrick was the beloved son of Crystal and Irving Thomas. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Yana Rue; his sons, Derrick Rue Jr., Dylan Rue, and Dominic Rue; and his precious grandchildren, Rayne Johnson and Imahle Rue. He is also survived by his siblings: Dionne Smith (Ruban), Christian Rue, Willie Lannie Thomas (Chris) and Ericca Haisley, along with nieces and nephews, a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives he touched deeply. For more than 25 years, Derrick faithfully worked in the Maintenance Department at Northwest Health and Rehab, where he was respected for his dedication, hard work, and dependable spirit. He took pride in everything he did and built lasting relationships with coworkers and residents alike. Derrick had a passion for motorcycles and especially loved his Hayabusa. Whether riding the open road or spending time with those he loved, he embraced life fully and fearlessly. Many also remember him as the talented drum major from Jeanerette High School, where his leadership and vibrant personality shined brightly. Derrick’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and faith. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue through the many lives he inspired.
