Eugene Anthony (Zak) Zakrzewski passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023 at the age of 80. Zak was born October 15, 1942 in Utica, New York to Paul and Victoria Zakrzewski. He had nine siblings: Frances, Bob, Dorie, Lorraine, John, Virginia, Richard, Hank, and Rosie. After graduating from Sauquoit Valley Central High School, he served in the US Army for a short time. Zak had great wood working skills and worked as a carpenter and general contractor for most of his life. He ran his own general contracting businesses, Mako Specialties and Zak's Construction, doing mostly residential construction projects.
Zak was a skilled hunter and went as often as he could. He hunted deer, elk, hogs, and other wild game. He was an antique car enthusiast, and enjoyed going to car, boat and gun shows. He also enjoyed cooking/grilling, four-wheeling, fishing, and watching hunting/nature shows on tv. Although he was originally from upstate New York, he loved Texas and considered himself a Texan. He loved all things western, frequently wearing his cowboy hat and boots, going to the Houston rodeo, and watching old western movies on tv.
In his later years, he suffered from Parkinson's disease which limited his mobility. He exercised regularly in the pool out at Mary Jo Peckham Park to strengthen his muscles. Zak came to know Jesus, attended Second Baptist Church, and was involved in a bible study group there. Zak loved his girlfriend Carol of many years and enjoyed spending time with her until she passed in 2020. His cat, Mac Mac, who he rescued from a storm sewer was his constant companion and he loved him dearly. As his Parkinson's progressed, it required him to live in a care facility for the last 18 months of his life.
Zak is survived by his two daughters, Leigh Faith Spencer of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Leslie Anne Adams of Katy, Texas, son, Stephen Eugene Koser of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and granddaughters Molly Adams, Jenna Adams, Sieria Steele, and Savannah Steele.
