In Loving Memory of Joachim Ikponmwosa Francis Idada

With hearts weighed down by grief but in complete surrender to the will of God, the Idada family announces the unexpected and glorious transition of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and in-law—Joachim Ikponmwosa Francis Idada.

Born on August 11, 1965, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, Joachim was the cherished son of the late Stephen Ekhoseuhi Idada and Magdalen Idada. His early education at Jinadu Primary School, Falomo, Ikoyi, Lagos, set the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of excellence. He furthered his studies at Federal Government College, Azare, Bauchi State; Anwar-Ul Islam Model College, Agege, Lagos State; and the University of Lagos, Akoka, where he forged enduring friendships and a spirit of achievement.

Joachim’s life was marked by love and purpose. While serving his nation during the National Youth Service Corps at Chevron Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, he met and married the love of his life, Asweifieni Egu, on December 19, 1993. Together, they built a beautiful family blessed with two remarkable children, Elnathan Osarieme Onisokumen Ikponmwosa-Idada and Viola Anume Ikponmwosa-Idada.

Joachim’s professional journey was one of innovation and impact. From his early days at Paulosa Nigeria Ltd, Abuja, to his distinguished role as a Sales Engineer and Aviation Superintendent at Africa Petroleum, he exemplified diligence and vision. His entrepreneurial spirit led to the establishment of FIJI Ventures Ltd, where he made significant contributions in sports, entertainment, interactive media, and broadcasting as CEO of African Sports Entertainment News Network (ASENN) TV.

A trailblazer in the world of chess, darts, and pool. Joachim co-founded the Fiji Chess Club, which nurtured several national champions. He initiated programs such as the Tom Tom Dynamics Inter-School Chess League, The Chess Teacher TV program, and G’draz, and served as Technical Director of the Lagos State Dart Association. His leadership extended to organizing the Lekki Quarterly Darts Series, Lagos State Darts Open, and Brain Booster. As President of the Snooker and Pool Players Alliance, he created platforms like the Joy Heyball Masters Nigeria Qualifiers to celebrate emerging talent.

A devout Catholic, Joachim faithfully served in the Christian Men’s Organisation at Ave Maria Catholic Church Ikate, Lekki, Lagos. He was also an active member of the alumni associations of Federal Government College, Azare, and the University of Lagos, embodying a commitment to community and connection.

On December 17, 2024, at the age of 59, Joachim departed this world suddenly but left an indelible legacy of love, kindness, and excellence.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Asweifieni Idada; his cherished children, Elnathan and Viola; his loving mother, Magdalen Idada; his siblings—Mediatrix, Stephen Jr., Valerie, Winifred, Joseph, Jude, and Francis; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunties, and in-laws who celebrate the life of a man who touched so many.

Though his earthly journey was brief, Joachim’s legacy will live on in the countless lives he inspired. May his soul find eternal rest in the embrace of our Lord.
